Job summary

DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) is seeking a WellConnect Peer Specialist to provide peer counseling, support, and advocacy within a multidisciplinary team serving PSH residents. The role draws on lived experience with mental illness and substance use recovery to foster participant empowerment and housing stability.

The WellConnect team delivers 24/7 coverage, coordinating case management, housing support, and clinical services.

Qualifications

• Certified Peer Support Specialist credential required.
• Lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services.
• Valid WA driver's license and insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer counseling and support, drawing on lived experience to validate participants' experiences and encourage recovery.
• Mentor participants to promote hope and empowerment.
• Act as interpreter to help non-mental health staff understand participants' experiences.
• Provide clinical perspective and guidance on symptoms and treatment to the team.
• Help reduce stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.
• Increase participant engagement in self-help and recovery-oriented services.
• Assist with benefits enrollments, re-certifications, appointments and payee services.
• Participate in 24-hour crisis coverage and on-call rotations.
