Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient setting. You will work under physician direction, perform clinical duties, and support the clinic with scheduling and documentation in the EMR.

The role requires CMA or RMA certification and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Certification from NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (1-year certificate or 2-year diploma) preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assist (RMA) required.
• Certified by one of the listed governing associations: NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents patient visit data using the rooming tool in the electronic medical record.
• Sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
• Assists patient to prepare for visit and ensures safety and privacy.
• Performs EKGs, wound dressings, and supports provider during minor procedures.
• Prepares and administers medications per policy after competency validation.
• Completes patient tests and treatments per provider orders.
• Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and performs phlebotomy as directed.
• Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support patient care and medical records.
• Documents in medical records and uses scheduling system.
• Facilitates timely appointments and completes referrals/pre-authorizations as needed.
• Collects co-payments and assists with orientation of new personnel.
