Job summary

UNC Health seeks a Medical Assistant I, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in our outpatient clinic at Caldwell Memorial Hospital Urgent Care Blowing Rock.

Under supervision, you will room patients, collect vital signs, assist with procedures, perform phlebotomy, administer medications, and maintain exam rooms while ensuring accurate EMR documentation and patient care.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is preferred but not required.
• MA certification from accredited bodies is expected or preferred.
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake with vital signs and measurements.
• Collects patient data including medical and social history.
• Reviews medications and allergies; assists with procedures.
• Assists providers during treatments and examinations.
• Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Assists with administration of medications under supervision.
• Performs tests such as EKG and eye exams under supervision.
• Reviews records for routine health screenings.
• Maintains exam rooms with supplies and educational materials.
• Provides after-visit instructions and patient education.
• Prepares and sterilizes instruments; cleans rooms.
• Assists with registration, scheduling, and referrals.
• Answer clinic calls and manage patient messages.
• Assists in emergencies as directed.
