Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill is seeking a Medical Assistant II, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. You will work under the supervision of the provider and manager to ensure smooth patient flow, accurate data collection and high-quality care.

The role requires certification and at least one year of MA experience, with BLS. ACAAHEP/ABHES-accredited program is preferred but not required. Onsite work with UNC Health benefits.

Qualifications

• None required as long as other position qualifications are met.
• Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is strongly preferred but not required.
• Requires Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA or NCMA.
• Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC is required.
• At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake with vital signs and patient data.
• Collects patient medical history and social history.
• Reviews medication list, allergies and pharmacy preferences.
• Assists provider during treatments and procedures.
• Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Administers medications under provider direction.
• Conducts tests (e.g. EKG, eye exams) under provider direction.
• Ensures exam rooms have supplies and materials for visits.
• Provides after-visit and self-care instructions to patients.
• Prepares and cleans exam rooms and sterilizes instruments.
• Assists with patient registration, check-in/out and test scheduling.
• Answers clinic calls and helps manage patient communications.
• Assists in emergencies as directed by provider or nurse.
• Trains and mentors new medical assistants and externs.
• Maintains preventive health measures for patient panels.
