Job description

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the healthcare provider, the Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for delivering patient care that promotes safety and wellbeing. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and other measures as directed by clinical protocols.

• Perform general patient care following established standards and procedures.

• Greet and prepare patients for the healthcare provider.

• Obtain and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, current medications, and presenting problems.

• Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as required.

• Administer medications and vaccines via oral, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, or inhalant routes as ordered.

• Perform routine tests such as EKGs.

• Schedule diagnostic tests and follow up to ensure completion.

• Communicate test results and care plans to patients by phone or mail as directed by the physician.

• Prepare, sterilize, and maintain instruments and equipment; keep exam rooms clean and stocked; dispose of contaminated items per protocol.

• Document patient care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed.

• Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare provider.

• Ensure safety checklists and quality controls are completed as required.

• Protect patient safety and privacy rights.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the practice manager or healthcare providers.

Qualifications

Education and Licensure

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.

• Completion of Medication Aide 40-hour course or current Medication Aide certification required if applicable.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

Minimum Experience

• 1 year of experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to perform EKGs, draw blood, and administer injections.

• Effective communication skills with staff and patients.

• Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.

• Proficiency in medical terminology and abbreviations.

• Sound judgment and composure in emergency situations.

• Positive attitude and caring approach towards patients.

• Good computer skills with medical management software.

• Strong work ethic and professionalism.
