Job description

Overview

Responsibilities

Under the direction of healthcare providers, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for delivering patient care that promotes safety and well-being. Key duties include:

  1. Performing preliminary physical tests such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and other measures as per clinical protocols.
  2. Providing general patient care following established standards and procedures.
  3. Greeting patients and preparing them for the healthcare provider.
  4. Obtaining and recording vital signs and other relevant patient information.
  5. Drawing blood samples and preparing specimens for lab analysis, if required.
  6. Administering medications and vaccines via appropriate routes as ordered.
  7. Performing routine tests such as EKGs, if required.
  8. Scheduling diagnostic tests and following up to ensure completion.
  9. Communicating test results and care plans to patients via phone or mail, as directed.
  10. Preparing, sterilizing, and maintaining instruments and equipment; keeping exam rooms clean and stocked.
  11. Documenting patient care, tests, and examination results in medical records.
  12. Escalating non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare provider.
  13. Ensuring safety checklists and quality controls are completed.
  14. Protecting patient safety and privacy rights.
  15. Performing other duties as assigned by the practice manager or healthcare providers.
Qualifications

Education and Licensure: High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid CMA certification or RMA, if applicable. Completion of Medication Aide 40-hour course or current certification, if applicable. BLS or ACLS certification required.

Minimum Experience: At least 1 year of experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to perform EKGs, draw blood, administer injections; effective communication skills; knowledge of exam, diagnostic, and treatment procedures; proficiency in medical terminology; sound judgment in emergencies; positive attitude; computer skills; strong work ethic and professionalism.
