Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the healthcare provider, deliver patient care that promotes safety and wellbeing.
- Perform preliminary physical tests such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, and respirations as directed by protocols.
- Perform general patient care following established standards and procedures.
- Greet and prepare patients for the healthcare provider.
- Obtain and record vital signs, allergies, medications, and presenting problems.
- Draw blood samples and prepare specimens for lab analysis if required.
- Administer medications and vaccines via various routes.
- Perform routine tests like EKGs.
- Schedule diagnostic tests and follow up on completion.
- Communicate test results and care plans with patients.
- Maintain and sterilize instruments, keep exam rooms clean and stocked, dispose of contaminated items properly.
- Document patient care, tests, and examination results accurately.
- Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare providers.
- Ensure safety checklists and quality controls are completed.
- Protect patient safety and privacy rights.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification.
- Medication Aide 40-hour course completion or current certification if applicable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Experience and Skills
- Preferably 1 year of experience.
- Ability to perform EKGs, draw blood, and administer injections.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Sound judgment and ability to handle emergency situations.
- Positive attitude towards patients.
- Good computer skills with medical management applications.
- Strong work ethic and professionalism.
