Job summary

Ascension is hiring for a Medical Assistant in Fishers, IN, in the Gastroenterology department. The role supports providers with treatments, conducts patient interviews, takes vital signs, and maintains charts.

You will handle front-desk tasks, light materials management, and ensure clean, prepared exam rooms. The position requires high school completion or related experience, with BLS within 1 month and Medical Assistant certification within 3 months.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent or 1 year of applicable experience.
• BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire date.
• Medical Assistant certification/registration within 3 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse.
• Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts; prepares treatment rooms for examination.
• Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
• Manages supplies: ordering and stocking; helps maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Documents encounters and transcribes orders including labs, radiology and medications as indicated by the provider.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse. Performs select clinical duties.
• Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
• Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
• Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
• May document the provider's encounter with patients. Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as indicated by the provider. Transcribes patient orders including, but not limited to, laboratory tests, radiology tests and medications.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Medical Assistant obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Certified or Registered both accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. *Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
