Under the supervision of licensed nurses, you will administer medications, organize duties, document all medications, monitor for reactions, record vital signs, and report as required. Applicants must complete state-approved training and hold CNA certification.

Qualifications

• Must have completed state approved school of medication administration.
• Must carry current acknowledgment card or certification issued by state agency.
• Must be willing to abide by restrictions placed on his/her job by state agency.
• Must be a certified nursing assistant.

Responsibilities

• Administers PRN medications after authorization by the facility’s licensed nurse or treating physician.
• Organizes assigned medication duties to pour, pass, and document all routine prescribed medications and to give PRN medication only with nurse instruction.
• Documents all PRN’s according to State Standards in all areas of the chart.
• Observe and report reactions and side effects of medications to the charge licensed nurse.
• Take and record vital signs prior to administration of medications which could affect the vital signs.
• Administer and document regularly prescribed medications after preparation and document in the resident’s clinical record.
• Count and document narcotics at the discretion of the charge nurse and on the medication sheet.
