Job summary

Ocean Beach Health is seeking a full-time Centralized Scheduler to manage hospital and clinic referrals, schedule outpatient and inpatient procedures, and coordinate prior authorizations. The role requires strong medical terminology knowledge, EMR experience, and excellent communication in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

You will work within a supportive, mission-driven non-profit setting on the Long Beach Peninsula, with competitive benefits and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have extensive medical terminology, insurance verification or healthcare experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of EMR software or medical billing software and related tech.
• Spreadsheet/word processing/data entry skills with speed and accuracy.
• Current experience with commercial/governmental insurance carriers.

Responsibilities

• Contacts health plans or payers to verify benefits and obtain authorizations.
• Enter deductible amounts, co-pays, effective dates, and authorization numbers in the EMR system.
• Identify payer sources and document eligibility and approval decisions.
• Process prior authorization requests via phone, fax, email, or mail; reschedule if needed.
• Provide patient-centered service and resolve issues or escalate to the Manager.
• Handle high call volumes and multi-task effectively.
• Maintain knowledge of payer guidelines and document eligibility and benefits.
• Develop strong relationships with health plans/payers and departments.
• Attend meetings and follow Ocean Beach Hospital policies.
