Job summary

Union College (NY) in Schenectady invites applications for a Stationary Engineer Level II to support operations, maintenance, and repair of the central plant equipment and downstream steam and chilled water distribution. The role involves startup/shutdown procedures, water chemistry testing, and monitoring BMS systems.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree in plant utilities or related field and experience with high-pressure steam systems, chillers, and 13.2kV/480V switching.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in plant utilities, electrical, or mechanical engineering; combination of related education, training and/or work experience will be considered.
• Experience in operating high pressure steam boilers and distribution.
• Experience with central plant chiller systems and distributed chilled water.
• Experience with switching 13.2KV and 480V breakers through a Load Management System (LMS).
• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer skills including Word, Excel, and Adobe.
• Knowledge of distributive control systems (DCS).
• Valid New York State driver’s license.
• Licensed as a Stationary Engineer, and/or Navy plant operator.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures for plant systems including boilers, turbines, chillers, and cooling towers.
• Perform water tests for boiler feed water and condensate; support care and treatment of cooling towers with vendors.
• Monitor control room instrumentation and alarms; identify deficiencies and take corrective actions.
• Utilize the building management systems (BMS) for performance monitoring and to address deficiencies.
• Assist with plant switchovers by draining or filling AHU coils as needed by season.
