Job summary

Ford Energy in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Battery Cell DV/PV Testing Engineer to lead verification and performance life testing of cells for BESS products. You will run DV/PV plans, analyze data, and support teardown and root-cause analysis in collaboration with design, quality, and supplier teams.

You will also coordinate with external suppliers, track test progress, and help ensure cell chemistries meet reliability requirements during ramp to production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience testing battery cells or battery systems in a lab or validation environment.
• Hands-on experience setting up and operating battery cyclers, environmental/thermal chambers, and data acquisition systems.
• Working knowledge of DV/PV testing methodology and DVP&R/PVP&R documentation.
• Experience or working knowledge of teardown techniques for battery cells (mechanical disassembly, visual/optical inspection, electrical characterization).
• Experience tracking or analyzing test results generated by external suppliers or test labs.
• Ability to read and interpret test specifications, engineering drawings, and cell datasheets.
• Strong data analysis skills (Excel and/or MATLAB/Python) and clear technical report writing.
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to supplier or external test lab sites.

Responsibilities

• Execute DV and PV test plans on internally sourced battery cells, focusing on performance and life characterization.
• Set up and operate cell test equipment to generate performance and life data.
• Support environmental testing as needed to complete DV/PV requirements.
• Track the status and schedule of cell tests with external suppliers.
• Collect and analyze supplier test results; compare with internal data and prior lots.
• Coordinate with supplier engineering to clarify test methods and data gaps.
• Review supplier quality documentation related to cell performance and life test data.
• Summarize supplier test outcomes for design, quality, and program teams.
• Maintain a failure-mode knowledge base to support faster diagnosis.
• Analyze test data and maintain traceability to requirements.
• Communicate test status and risks to cross-functional teams.
• Recommend improvements to test methods and data analysis.
