Job summary

Columbus Technical College is seeking a qualified Program Director for the Commercial Truck Driving program. You will lead classroom, range, and behind-wheel instruction, ensuring high-quality training and regulatory compliance with FMCSA and DDS CDL requirements.

The role oversees faculty, maintains records, and collaborates with industry partners to align training with workforce needs. Teaching may occur on or off campus, with travel and flexible scheduling as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• State of Georgia Class A CDL license.
• Minimum of three years of verifiable commercial driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective classroom, range, and behind-wheel instruction in Commercial Truck Driving/CDL operations.
• Teach students the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for safe operation of commercial motor vehicles.
• Provide instruction in vehicle inspection, basic vehicle systems, safe operating procedures, defensive driving, trip planning, cargo handling, and other applicable CDL competencies.
• Demonstrate and evaluate proper vehicle control, backing maneuvers, coupling/uncoupling, turning, shifting, braking, lane positioning, and other required driving skills.
• Prepare students for successful completion of CDL knowledge and skills testing.
• Develop and deliver instructional materials per curriculum standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide instruction consistent with FMCSA and DDS CDL requirements.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and support to full-time and adjunct faculty in the program.
• Maintain accurate attendance, progress, grading, and instructional records.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

State of Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License

Minimum of three years of verifiable commercial driving experience
