Job summary

State of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Transportation, Columbus, NE, seeks a Hwy Construction Technician I/II to inspect highway construction and perform survey, testing, and documentation tasks. Training will occur under supervision; CDL acquisition is required within 90 days.

Role involves varied hours outdoors, including nights and weekends, with extensive safety protocols. Promotion potential to Technician II and access to a broad benefits package are available.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include 18 years of age and a valid driver’s license for Technician I and II.
• NDOT courses or coursework in surveying, materials testing, or inspections for Technician II.
• Willingness to obtain a Class A/B CDL within 90 days of hire and pass related training.

Responsibilities

• Train to perform inspection duties on highway construction projects.
• Learn to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Perform surveying, materials testing, and ROW staking as assigned.
• Operate snow removal equipment as needed and document daily contractor work.
• Maintain safety and quality standards on outdoor highway sites.
