Job summary

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a CDL Operator A to support highway and bridge maintenance. You will operate trucks and construction equipment, perform routine safety checks, and assist mechanics with equipment repairs. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on field work.

Typical schedule is weekday 7:00 AM–3:00 PM with travel and overtime requirements. Valid CDL with Air Brake removed and Medical Certificate are mandatory; Tank endorsement must be earned

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania Class A or B CDL (Air Brake restriction removed) is required.
• Medical Examiner's Certificate required per FMCSA.
• Must obtain Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within two weeks of employment.
• Probationary period to obtain additional PennDOT certifications for heavy trucks and loaders.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and construction machines and perform daily safety checks.
• Flag traffic to manage flow during work activities.
• Use hand tools to perform cutting, cleaning, digging and repair tasks.
• Make minor repairs and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
