Job summary

Tri Area Trucking School in Freeland, MI is hiring a CDL Trucking Instructor for a full-time, in-person role. You will use your driving experience to teach new drivers, guiding them from classroom instruction to on-road training to help them hit the road confidently.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of recent truck driving experience.
  • Valid CDL A with ability to drive a manual truck.
  • Current CDL DOT Medical Wallet Card.
  • Must obtain Michigan Driving Instructor License.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather, with extended standing and sitting.
  • Able to get in and out of Semi-Tractor/Trailers and perform driving duties.
  • Patience, flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Stand for extended periods and move around to support students.
  • Vision and hearing sufficient to operate equipment and read materials.
  • Ability to use technology to maintain student records.
  • Effective communication in classroom and individual settings.
  • Knowledge of Ross curriculum and ability to convey it.
  • Adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Pursue credential/licensure within expected time frames.
  • Professionalism in manner, dress and conduct as a Ross representative and student mentor.
  • Treat all students fairly; attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Adhere to Ross Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Teach CDL students using Ross curriculum and approved lesson plans.
  • Set schedule and deliver both classroom and on-road instruction.
  • Maintain accurate student records and progress notes.
  • Provide a safe, supportive learning environment for new drivers.

CDL Qualifications & Requirements


  • 2 years or more of recent truck driving experience

  • Valid CDL A - no restrictions - must be able to drive a manual truck

  • Current CDL DOT Medical Wallet Card

  • Must be able to obtain a state of Michigan Driving Instructor License

  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors, in all weather, withextended periods of time standing and sitting

  • Must be able to get in and out of Semi-Tractor/Trailers and perform all driving related duties

  • Must have patience, flexibility and a willingness to learn

  • Sufficient ability to stand for extended periods of time, move around the building and classroom to satisfy student needs and/or facilitate student participation.
