Job summary

The City of San Benito is seeking a Wastewater Maintenance Worker to operate heavy equipment, install and repair wastewater lines, and perform routine maintenance. This role requires physical stamina and strict adherence to safety standards.

We have three vacancies at $14.00 per hour. A High School diploma or GED is preferred; a Texas driver’s license is required, CDL is preferred, and TCEQ licensing must be obtained within one year. The job may involve 24/7 shift flexibility and heavy lifting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred but not required; ability to write routine reports and basic math.
• Current Texas Driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• Must obtain TCEQ licensing within one year and maintain wastewater system infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Operate City equipment (backhoe, loader, excavator, dump truck) and use tools to complete tasks.
• Install and repair wastewater lines, excavate, lay pipe, and install taps and manholes.
• Block off work areas as needed and ensure public safety and traffic flow.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs; check fluids and belts.
• Work in compliance with all safety regulations and city policies.
• Maintain positive relations with coworkers and assist in training others.
• Respond to public inquiries courteously and refer complex issues to the supervisor.
• Adhere to all city safety policies and applicable state/federal regulations.
