Job summary

FedEx Freight in Effingham, IL, seeks a safety‑conscious driver capable of operating tractor‑trailers and performing dock duties. Responsibilities include forklift operation, dock work, and constant adherence to DOT rules.

You will perform pre/post-trip inspections, hook trailers, secure freight, and communicate with Dispatch to ensure timely pickups and deliveries. The role requires a CDL/CLP, clean MVR, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds regularly.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or commercial learning permit prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds multiple times a day.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections.
• Hook up trailers and dolly connections.
• Handle freight with forklift and pallet jack.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when needed.
• Maintain required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, equipment issues.
