Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a qualified driver/operator to become proficient in operating tractor-trailer combinations. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work, with emphasis on safety inspections and proper handling of freight.

The role requires a Class A CDL or CLP, valid MVR, and adherence to DOT regulations. You will work closely with Dispatch to manage pickups, deliveries, and customer service across varying shifts.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, and climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with equipment like forklift and pallet jack.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and company procedures as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or problems.
• Demonstrate customer service and determine pickup/delivery needs.
