Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking individuals to become proficient in operating tractor-trailer combinations, with responsibilities including forklift operation and dock work. Starting at a rate of pay $27.26 per hour, the role emphasizes education and driving skills development to meet DOT and safety standards.

Duties include pre-trip/post-trip inspections, freight handling, securing loads, hazmat compliance, and collaboration with Dispatch.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailer sets requiring ~100 lb lift, several times daily.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads for sales.
• Where needed, perform job duties of road driver or freight handler.
• Chain vehicle tires, as required.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
