Job summary

FedEx Freight in Winchester, VA seeks a tractor-trailer operator in training to become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer, with non-driving duties such as forklift and dock work.

Starting pay is $27.26 per hour, with a pay range to $32.47 per hour. Duties include inspections, loading/unloading, hazmat compliance, documenting and communicating with dispatch and customers.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler.
