Job summary

160 Driving Academy is seeking an experienced CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to teach students from pre-trip inspections to passing their CDL exam. You’ll work at a designated yard with a team of instructors, and may cover other regional yards as needed.

The role emphasizes safety, hands-on training, and adherence to curriculum. Expect a Monday–Friday schedule with occasional variations and a 90-day probation period.

Qualifications

• High school graduation certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL with at least 24 months verifiable Class A tractor-trailer experience.
• State of license must match job location.
• Manual transmission experience - licensed to operate and teach.
• Motor Vehicle Record free of violations.
• Pass DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening.
• Background check clearance required.
• Strong communication skills to mentor and coach students.
• Basic computer skills for tracking progress and scheduling.
• Residence in applying state or relocation secured.
• Must meet state instructor licensing requirements.
• 90-day probationary period at hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills in yards and on-road.
• Guide students through pre-trip inspections and maneuvers.
• Prepare students to pass CDL testing standards on first attempt.
• Track attendance and progress; provide extra support as needed.
• Maintain training records and evaluations.
• Report incidents to lead and corporate in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with Lead Instructor to ensure a consistent student experience.
• Help keep yard/building clean and presentable.
• Fill in at nearby regional yards during emergencies.
