Job summary

160 Driving Academy is hiring a CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to teach students from pre-trip inspection to CDL exam, in yard and on-road settings. You’ll work with a team of instructors, covering designated yards and occasionally other regional locations as needed.

This hands-on role emphasizes safety, consistent curriculum, and student outcomes, with opportunities for merit-based wage increases, bonuses, and relocation support for long-distance moves.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL with 24 months of driving experience.
• Must meet state instructor licensing requirements.
• Manual transmission experience—able to teach.
• MVR clean with no violations.
• Able to pass DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening.
• Background check clearance required.
• Residence in applying state or relocation plan.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills in outdoor yards using automatic and manual transmissions.
• Guide students through pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and on-road driving.
• Help students pass CDL testing on the first attempt.
• Track attendance and progress; provide additional support.
• Maintain training records, evaluations, and documentation.
• Report incidents to lead and corporate in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with fellow instructors to ensure a consistent student experience.
• Cover for other instructors at nearby yards when needed.
• Adhere to safety, compliance and curriculum during a 90‑day probationary period.
