Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a supervisor to plan, direct and evaluate highway maintenance crews and the associated machinery such as backhoes, excavators, loaders, patchers, and trucks. Responsibilities include safety, documentation in HMMS, and coordinating maintenance programs.

The position requires 3.5 years of related work experience, a valid Class A CDL within six months, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience or an approved equivalence.
• Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• Physically able to perform demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Plans, supervises, directs, evaluates and manages the activities of skilled and semi-skilled Highway Maintenance Workers and the related mechanical resources (Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, Road Patchers and Trucks).
• Ensures safety, accurate documentation in the HMMS, and compliance with state standards and procedures.
• Coordinates CDL compliance, fleet safety, PM programs and vehicle/equipment maintenance; communicates across the organization.
• Develops and implements plans for requested work, supports hurricane/snow and emergency response, and maintains on-call readiness.
