Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a working supervisor to lead a maintenance crew responsible for roads and bridges in the state highway system. You will supervise skilled and semi-skilled workers, plan daily schedules, and ensure compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

The role requires CDL Class A within 6 months, strong leadership, and the ability to operate or supervise heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain Class A Commercial Driver's License within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and instruct maintenance crew in road/bridge maintenance tasks.
• Plan daily schedules and determine equipment, materials, and labor needs.
• Maintain reports on personnel time, materials, and equipment usage in asset management systems (HMMS/EAMS).
• Coordinate traffic control devices and ensure proper setup of maintenance work zones per SCMUTCD standards.
• Enforce safety practices, conduct safety meetings, and document job hazard assessments.
