Job summary

York County Government is hiring for a full-time Operations HEO in the Solid Waste Collection & Recycling division. The role involves operating equipment at the Material Recovery Facility and supporting the collection centers, including commercial vehicle operations.

Salary range is $20.60–$24.72 per hour, with a 40-hour workweek, Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–3:00 pm and possible overtime. CDL Class B is required; Class A preferred. Training and safety emphasis are noted throughout the posting.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Two years of experience operating heavy equipment.
• Valid state Class B Commercial Driver’s license; Class A preferred.
• Heavy Equipment Certification and CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Operates a commercial vehicle to transport solid waste and/or recyclables.
• Maintains the MRF and buildings; operates and adjusts sorting line, PLCs, baler, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
• Coordinates, trains and assigns tasks to temporary laborers and/or inmate laborers for MRF operations.
• Prepares and loads recyclables onto tractor-trailers for shipment.
• Operates heavy equipment for loading and movement of materials.
• Separates, packages, and delivers recyclables into appropriate categories and deliveries as scheduled.
• Performs preventive maintenance on sorting equipment, baler, and related machinery.
• Conducts daily and routine safety meetings for staff.
• Assists with special events as required.
• Performs related work as assigned.
