Job summary

West Columbia, City of (SC) is seeking a full-time truck/heavy equipment operator to drive a heavy duty truck on residential routes, load and transfer refuse, and assist with recycling activities.

Position requires a valid SC CDL, a junior high school education with up to 11 months of experience, and the ability to operate and maintain trucks and related equipment. 40 hours per week with some overtime and on-call hours.

Qualifications

• Junior high school education with 5–11 months of experience as a truck/heavy equipment operator or closely related position.
• Must possess a valid SC Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Responsibilities

• Drives and operates a heavy duty boom truck on a residential refuse route.
• May drive a recycling truck to collect recyclables and transport to Recycle Centers.
• May assist with sorting recyclables.
• Directs and oversees inmates and Sanitation Workers; assigns and reviews work, maintains standards.
• Ensures trucks are loaded properly and in good operating condition; refuels daily and performs maintenance.
• Communicates with supervisor via two-way radio.
• Receives landfill and gas tickets and submits to appropriate person.
• Operates various machinery and equipment including trucks, pitchfork, rake, shovel, etc.
