Job summary

FedEx Freight in West Memphis, AR is seeking a professional Truck Driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers. You’ll perform pre-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and handle freight using forklifts and pallet jacks.

You’ll also drive in compliance with DOT and hazardous materials rules. The role requires a Class A CDL with hazmat and double/triple endorsements, plus 1 year of recent driving experience or completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
• Must possess one (1) year experience within most recent three (3) years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) operations in listed states require qualification
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training
• Ability to work independently or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations and/or straight trucks
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies
• Handle freight with motorized and manual equipment like forklift and pallet jack
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
• Collect freight charges when required and maintain receipts
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or problems
• Communicate with customers to arrange pick-up/delivery and solicit more business
• Provide internal and external customer service
• Seek additional business leads for sales opportunities
• May perform chaining of tires or other duties as required
• May cover road driver or dock duties if necessary
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies
