Job summary

FedEx Freight in Michigan is seeking a CDL driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers and support the sales process. You will operate tractor-trailers (including doubles/triples where applicable) or straight trucks, perform pre-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and handle freight using forklifts and pallet jacks.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• Must possess one year experience within most recent three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) qualifications apply in listed states; meet LCV standards where applicable
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds repeatedly
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations and other trucks as required
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies
• Handle freight with motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck)
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when needed
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or problems
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Solicit additional business leads for sales
• May perform tire chaining as needed
• May perform duties of road driver or dock employee as required
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies
• Perform other duties as required
