Position Summary
Exercises independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of catastrophe property claims. Also assists assigned field office when not on catastrophe deployment in handling day-to-day property claims.
Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes immediate contact with policyholders regarding their loss, driving to the site of damage within the assigned territory or as required.
Sets and manages reserves within designated authority.
Identifies and assesses damages, determines liability and total claim value.
Prepares estimates for damages, obtains scope of work and repair costs with contractors or policyholders.
Documents all activities in claim files and submits final reports for closure.
Decides or declines payments, issues checks, and negotiates claims with attorneys when necessary.
Supervises handling of property losses by independent adjusters when needed and advises on claim handling.
Attends industry training to stay current on legal and regulatory developments.
Assists field offices when not on catastrophe duty, bringing claims to conclusion.
Maintains operational readiness of the attached Sprinter Van.
The first five duties are essential to the job, which must be performed to accomplish the role.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Five years of claims handling experience, including two years in property claims, required. Strong technical knowledge of structural damage repair and valuation techniques or equivalent required.
Preferred: Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program. Proficiency with estimating software (preferably Symbility) or equivalent. Appropriate state license. Valid driver's license and good driving record. Must reside within the assigned territory unless approved for change. Must serve on the Catastrophe Team, which involves frequent travel on short notice for periods exceeding two weeks.

Ability to move over 50 lbs with lifting aid; often (20-50%).
Frequent driving (50-80%).
Occasional pushing, pulling, and moving objects with wheels.
Manual data entry and computer use; often (20-50%).
Climbing and accessing heights; moderate (30-40%).
