Position Summary

Exercises independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of catastrophe property claims. Also assists assigned field office when not on catastrophe deployment in handling day-to-day property claims.

  • This is a work-from-home position and applications are accepted within the entire ERIE Operating Footprint, which includes residents of PA, NY, MD/DC, NC, VA, WV, TN, WI, IL, IN, OH, and KY.
  • The majority of responsibilities will require travel within the ERIE footprint.

Duties and Responsibilities

Establishes immediate contact with Policyholders regarding their loss, driving to the site of damage within assigned territory or as required.

Sets and manages reserves within designated authority.

Identifies and assesses damage, determines liability and total claim value.

Prepares estimates for damages, obtains scope of work and repair costs with contractors or Policyholders.

Documents all activities in claim files and submits final reports for closure.

Decides on payments, issues checks, and negotiates claims with attorneys when necessary.

Supervises independent adjusters handling property losses when required and advises on claim handling.

Participates in industry training to stay current on legal and regulatory developments.

Assists assigned field offices when not on catastrophe duty to bring claims to conclusion.

Maintains operational readiness of the attached Sprinter Van.

The first five duties listed are essential functions necessary for role fulfillment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; five years claims handling experience including two in property claims; strong technical knowledge of damage repair and valuation; preferred completion of AIC program; proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Symbility); valid driver’s license; willingness to travel on short notice.

Ability to lift/move 0-20 lbs frequently; 20-50 lbs often; over 50 lbs with equipment; frequent driving; occasional pushing/pulling; data entry; climbing heights.
