Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Casual Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join the Muncy Place rehabilitation team. The role offers daylight hours with weekend/holiday coverage as needed, fostering a collaborative environment focused on patient-centered care.

You’ll work under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist to help patients regain strength, mobility, and independence across age groups, applying evidence-based techniques and maintaining thorough documentation.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited PTA program.
• Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of human growth and development across the lifespan.
• Ability to interpret medical records and clinical documentation.
• Strong organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized physical therapy treatments according to established plans of care.
• Monitor patient progress and communicate changes to the supervising PT.
• Assist in the treatment and assessment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within scope.
• Utilize evidence-based treatment techniques to maximize patient outcomes and functional independence.
• Maintain accurate electronic documentation meeting regulatory and organizational standards.
• Collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams.
• Supervise rehabilitation support staff in accordance with state practice regulations.
• Complete charge entry and statistical reporting accurately and efficiently.
• Assist with patient transport as needed in a safe, professional, and compassionate manner.
• Rotate between treatment areas or facilities as operational needs require.
• Meet productivity standards while maintaining a high level of patient care.
• Participate in staff meetings, continuing education, departmental initiatives, and professional development activities.
• Provide constructive feedback and support continuous improvement efforts within the department.
