Job summary

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Part-time Physical Therapist Assistant to support our Acute Care, Inpatient & Outpatient departments. This 24 hour/week, dayshift role includes rotating weekends and holidays and offers a generous sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

As a PTA, you will perform physical therapy treatments under the plan of care established by the supervising therapist, adjust plans as needed, and maintain accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and in-service education programs.
• Provides supervision to clinical support staff in accordance with state practice acts.
• Completes charge and statistical information accurately reflecting services rendered.
• Administers therapeutic interventions per plan created by the physical therapist for diverse patient groups.
• Assists physical therapists during patient evaluations and treatments as allowed by state law.
• Maintains written/electronic documentation meeting facility standards and cosigns where required.
• Rotates through treatment areas to support organizational needs.
• Communicates treatment progress and plan changes to supervising therapists.

This is a 24 hour/week, dayshift position that will include rotating weekends and holidays.

As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will provide physical therapy treatment in accordance with the plan of care established by the physical therapist. Recommend changes in the treatment plan to the supervising physical therapist based on the patient's condition and response to treatment. Maintain work area in a neat, orderly fashion. Direct therapy volunteers. Perform clerical responsibilities as required by the facility. Transport patients as necessary in a safe, comfortable, courteous, timely, and professional manner via prescribed transport vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, staff development, departmental committees and in-service education programs.
• Consistently utilizes and provides appropriate supervision to clinical support staff in accordance with Physical Therapy Practice Act of practicing state.
• Completes necessary charge/statistical information to accurately reflect services documented and rendered to patients
• Competently provides appropriate, comprehensive, and skillful therapeutic interventions based on treatment programs that have been developed by a physical therapist for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the scope of practice permitted by the Physical Therapy Practice Act of practicing state.
• Competently assists physical therapists in the survey of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the scope of practice permitted by the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state.
• Maintains written/electronic documentation that meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization for all clinical services rendered including documentation of changes in a patient's status, cancellations, and the treatment intervention administered.
• Ensures documentation is cosigned in accordance with the facility-specific guidelines and the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state.
• Rotates through selected treatment areas and/or facilities when necessary to facilitate organizational needs.
• Appropriately requests and actively provides objective feedback to supervisors regarding department performance and emergency situations.
• Schedules to achieve and maintain a level of productivity that meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization.
• Demonstrates clinical ability to implement the treatment program within the plan of care outlined by the physical therapist in accordance with patient response to treatment and/or change in patient medical status to maximize outcomes.
• Recognizes information that requires alteration in the plan of care and notifies the physical therapist in an appropriate and timely manner.
• Demonstrates clinical ability to implement the treatment program within the plan of care outlined by the physical therapist in a fashion that reflects current scientific and clinical knowledge to effectively achieve established outcomes/goals.
