Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant for Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. You will work closely with pathologists to describe gross pathology and sample biopsy materials, ensuring accurate specimen labeling and timely processing.

The role supports resident training and performs a variety of duties in surgical pathology, autopsy procedures, and laboratory operations while maintaining safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
• Successful completion of NAACLA accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program within the last five years.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examination and dissection of surgical biopsies and large complex specimens, maintaining specimen integrity and accurate labeling.
• Assists with intra-operative consultations, prepares cryostat sections, and tracks turnaround time.
• Prepares specimens for imaging and photographs, and maintains imaging equipment and files.
• Participates in autopsies and reviews gross and microscopic findings with attending pathologist.
• Assists in training pathology residents and medical students; provides feedback and instruction.
• Participates in quality/process improvement efforts and adheres to safety and regulatory standards.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university

Successful completion of NAACLA accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program within the last five years
