Job summary

Northwestern Medicine’s Pathologists’ Assistant role at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb is a casual position requiring rotating shifts. Working with pathologists and residents, you perform gross pathology description and sampling, aiding diagnosis while maintaining specimen integrity and turnaround times.

You assist in autopsies, participate in training of residents, and support laboratory operations, safety, and quality initiatives, with opportunities for professional development and engagement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university.
• Successful completion of NAACLA accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program within the last five years.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examination and dissection of surgical biopsies and large specimens, maintaining specimen integrity and accurate identification.
• Assists with intra-operative consultations, prepares slides, and tracks turnaround times.
• Participates in Perinatal and adult autopsies as assigned and discusses findings with attending pathologists.
• Assists in training pathology residents and medical students in surgical pathology and autopsy procedures.
• Maintains imaging/files and supports basic laboratory operations and equipment maintenance.
• Participates in quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives and documents discrepancies.
