Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a part-time Anatomic Pathology Lab Assistant for 20 hours per week at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. The role supports specimen processing, staining, and reporting under supervision to ensure timely patient diagnoses.

Responsibilities include handling non-gynecological and gynecological specimens, maintaining safety standards, and assisting in educational activities while contributing to the laboratory quality program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in related field preferred.
• 3+ years in a clinical setting.
• Experience with Windows-based software and LIS recommended.

Responsibilities

• Receive Non Gynecological & Surgical specimens after verifying acceptance criteria.
• Assign case accession numbers per workflow procedure.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance and notify supervisor.
• Document corrective actions when tests deviate from specifications.
• Order referral testing in LIS for Anatomic Pathology.
• Prepare, stain and cover-slip NGYN cytology and Surgical specimens.
• Stock client supplies and maintain clean, organized work area with safety adherence.
• Participate in safety and performance improvement activities.
• Assist in section meetings and continuing education programs.
