Job description

Position: Cashier

Hourly Rate: $17.20

Schedule: One weekend a month

Position Summary

The Cashier performs cashiering duties such as handling cash transactions, verifying cash drawers, giving change, counting cash receipts, and completing cash reports. May also perform general food service work and maintain sanitation standards in the service and dining areas. Responsibilities may vary depending on business needs and client requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Verify cash at the beginning of each shift.
  2. Operate cash register, receive payments, and record transactions accurately.
  3. Compute bills, make change, cash checks, and issue receipts.
  4. Maintain proper cash levels in the cash drawer.
  5. Prepare transaction reports and verify totals against cash on hand.
  6. Handle credit card transactions and be familiar with items for sale.
  7. Process refunds and operate ticket-dispensing machines.
  8. Complete customer purchases efficiently by scanning or inputting prices.
  9. Ensure all items are input correctly into the system.
  10. Open the facility 15 minutes prior to meal service.
  11. Practice good sanitation techniques.
  12. Secure the facility at closing.
  13. Follow energy conservation and recycling policies.
  14. Comply with Food Handlers Safety standards and attend related training.
  15. Follow HACCP policies and procedures.
  16. Report accidents and injuries promptly.
  17. Adhere to safety, security, and property management policies.
  18. Participate in safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.
  19. Attend required training sessions.
  20. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
  21. Maintain security clearances and comply with drug-free workplace policies.
  22. Follow security and property control procedures.
  23. Maintain safety standards per EM 385-1-1, OSHA, DOD, and other regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Cashier experience required.
  • Complete ServSafe Food Handler Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Flexible work schedule required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Education, Skills, and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with ALOHA POS system preferred.
