Job summary

Bucknell University is seeking a Carpenter I or II in the Facilities Department to maintain, repair, and renovate university buildings. The role requires broad carpentry expertise, tool proficiency, and adherence to safety protocols.

The Carpenter I/II will perform rough and finish carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, and participate in renovations, with potential for lead duties on projects. Strong reading of blueprints and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of carpentry experience or equivalent two-year technical training/certifications in carpentry.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive university vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Building Maintenance and Repairs: Performs rough and finish carpentry to repair and maintain university buildings, including walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, stairs, signage, and structural components.
• Cabinetry & Millwork: Constructs, installs, and repairs custom cabinetry, shelving, countertops, and millwork using hand and power tools.
• Renovation & New Construction: Participates in minor renovations, framing, drywall, insulation, doors, windows, and trim; reads blueprints and estimates time, materials, and equipment.
• Planning, Estimation, and Documentation: Reads blueprints and technical drawings to determine project requirements and maintains records of work orders and materials.
• Safety & Compliance: Follows university safety protocols and building codes; maintains clean, organized work areas and ensures tools/equipment are in good condition.
• Project/Event Support & Coordination: Collaborates with other trades to coordinate timelines and provides updates to supervisors and staff.
