Department: Minor In-House Construction

Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education

Description: Under direct supervision, constructs, installs, repairs, and renovates structures and fixtures of university offices, suites, and laboratories.

The responsibilities include:

1. Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and instructions to build, maintain, and repair various types of facilities and structures.
2. Performing demolition of offices, classrooms, and labs prior to renovations.
3. Designing and building custom cabinets, shelving, and furniture, such as plastic laminate, drawer glides, adjustable shelves, cabinet locks, and latches.
4. Constructing walls using both metal and wood stud framing; installing drywall, tapes, and floats.
5. Painting facilities and structures per specifications.
6. Constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing door frames and closures; mortising door hinges.
7. Designing, installing, and modifying suspended ceilings; laying out design for ceiling tiles and installing tiles and acoustical grid; collaborating with other departments on light layouts and drop locations.
8. Cutting and laying vinyl composition floor tile, sheet vinyl, rubber floor tile; applying and cutting ceramic tiles on walls and floors.
9. Installing and cutting glass in doors, windows, office partitions, fire hose cabinets, etc.
10. Serving on special task forces during emergencies such as floods, storms, hurricanes.
11. Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

• A basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions like percentages and ratios, typically acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
• At least one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
• A valid Texas Driver's License.

Experience may be considered in lieu of education. All positions are security sensitive and require a criminal history check.
