Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Carpenter to perform maintenance, repairs, renovations, and construction on City-owned buildings and facilities. Positions may be filled as Carpenter I, II, or III based on qualifications.

There is emphasis on safety, driving, and adherence to building codes. The team collaborates with planners and staff, offering a comprehensive benefits package including health and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Carpenter I: HS or GED plus 2 years in framing, trim, cornice, siding, cabinetry or equivalent.
• Carpenter II: HS or GED plus 4 years in carpentry roles (general carpenter, floor installer, roofer, framer, or form carpenter).
• Carpenter III: HS or GED plus 6 years in general carpentry roles; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance, repairs, renovations, and construction on City buildings and facilities.
• Repair furniture, doors, windows, roofing, locks, and hardware.
• Install and repair doors, windows, locks, and hardware.
• Perform framing, trim work, cabinetry, flooring, roofing, siding, concrete forming/pouring, and brick paver installation.
• Operate pressure-washing equipment and tools following safety procedures.
• Read blueprints and prepare cost estimates for labor and materials.
