Job summary

The Office of Public Facilities for the City of Virginia Beach is seeking an Engineer II/III to oversee maintenance, repair, and improvement of 186 City facilities. You will manage capital projects, review plans, coordinate with staff and consultants, and provide engineering and project management support for safe city operations.

This role may be filled at Engineer II or Engineer III level depending on licensure, experience, and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience managing multiple facility-related projects.
• Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills.
• Prior work on municipal building systems and equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple facility-related projects to meet scope, schedule, and budget.
• Prepare and review designs, plans, specs, scopes of work, and contract documents.
• Administer construction contracts, monitor contractor performance, and negotiate changes.
• Review site activities to ensure compliance with plans and standards.
• Conduct field inspections and coordinate with City departments, contractors and consultants.
• Develop project cost estimates, monitor expenditures, and maintain schedules.
