Job summary

Chapel Haven Schleifer Center in New Haven, CT is seeking a Career Development Advisor to guide individuals through career exploration, training, and job placement within CareerAbility. You will provide vocational counseling, recommend services, and support employment balanced with financial stability and job satisfaction.

The role serves residential, community, and non-residential participants with a focus on developmentally and socially disabled adults.

Qualifications

• Master's degree preferred; experience can substitute for education.
• Experience with standardized assessments, vocational/career development or transition services, data collection, and report writing.
• Minimum of three years' direct experience working with young adults/adults with developmental and social disabilities. Two years of counseling, teaching, or workforce development experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of state funding and services preferred.
• Excellent verbal presentation, written communication, and organizational skills.
• Creativity and passion for the work we do. Commitment to inclusion and disability advocacy.
• Valid CT driver's license: use of personal vehicle and proof of insurance required.

Responsibilities

• Intake and caseload: leads intake/referral into CareerAbility and carries a caseload; conducts one-on-one guidance, observations, assessments, job coaching, and support.
• Disability knowledge and counseling: understands developmental and social disabilities; advises staff, families, and employers.
• Facilitation and instruction: provides individual and group counseling and workshops; may present to Admissions for recruitment.
• Assessment: collects and synthesizes information, reviews records, writes measurable goals, and may administer assessments.
• Report writing and communication: maintains documentation, prepares instructional materials, and communicates with stakeholders.
• Person-centered planning and advocacy: develops Personal and Career Development Plans and oversees career pathway services.
• Team meetings and liaison: participates in team meetings and coordinates with external agencies; supervises Employment Specialists and Job Coaches.
• Record keeping and program development: maintains databases, supports billing, and helps develop CareerAbility curricula and job sites.
• Liaison with state agencies and school districts to coordinate services.
• Supervision: directly supervises staff supporting employment services.

Education

Master's degree preferred in counseling, psychology, social work, special education, vocational rehabilitation, or related areas
