Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
• Experience in Customer Service Role is preferred.
• Experience with Medical Records is preferred.
• Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department or medical setting is preferred.
• Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification is preferred.
• Experience in requesting and processing financial payments is preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Understanding of insurance policies and procedures is preferred.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to obtain demographic, billing, and insurance information and complete all registration steps.
• Locate and process provider requisitions
• Determine insurance eligibility
• Determine patient payment and collect payment on insured and self-pay accounts
• Obtain signatures for necessary paperwork including financial agreements and medical release
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of EMTALA regulations
• Problem solves account registration issues when working reports and/or patient concerns
• Prioritize work according to departmental need
• Maintain proficiency in all necessary software modules
• Refer complex situations to appropriate leadership
• Respond to patient questions, concerns and feedback
• Meet competencies as listed on the Orientation and competency checkoffs
• Comply with regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards
• Be familiar with Environment of Care areas and safety procedures
• Adhere to Universal Precautions and proper waste handling
• Keep up to date with hospital policies and procedures
• Assist with coverage of open shifts when needed
• Attend mandatory meetings and complete required training
• Report supply needs, problems, or injuries to leadership
• Read and respond to e-mails and phone messages
• Time keeping and attendance tracking
• Ensure supplies and forms are stocked
• Assist with other duties as requested
