Job summary

Sutter West Bay Medical Group in San Francisco, CA invites a Board Eligible/Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our expanding program. The role offers collaboration with cardiology, subspecialists, and a multidisciplinary team to deliver advanced surgical care for complex cardiac and thoracic conditions.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency/fellowship training, or current enrollment with anticipated completion prior to start date.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery; current Board Certification preferred.
  • Eligible for unrestricted California medical licensure.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Expertise in adult cardiac surgery (coronary, valvular, aortic).
  • Expertise in thoracic surgery (lung resection, general thoracic).
  • New graduates and fellows encouraged to apply.
  • Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and evidence-based care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Epic or similar EMR systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Perform a broad range of cardiac and thoracic procedures, including elective and urgent interventions.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with coronary artery disease, valvular disease, thoracic aortic disease, cardiac tumors, thoracic malignancies, and other complex conditions.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, and intensivists to develop treatment plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary cardiovascular and thoracic case conferences and quality initiatives.
  • Provide preoperative consultation, perioperative management, and postoperative follow-up care.
  • Support development and growth of cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services throughout the region.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and optimize outcomes.
  • Participate in call coverage and emergent surgical care as part of a collaborative surgical team.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and program development initiatives.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the Epic electronic health record.
  • Work within a highly collaborative program focused on exceptional patient outcomes.
