Job summary

Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) for the CTICR unit on the night shift (1900-0730) as part of Stony Brook Medicine. The RN will provide direct patient care, develop individualized plans, administer medications, and contribute to infection control and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has NYS RN licensure, acute care experience preferred, and will participate in pre-employment requirements and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Required: Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and at least one year of previous hospital acute care experience.
• Only licensed nurse experience in an acute care facility will be counted towards RN1 experience.
• Acute care is defined as medical services provided for illnesses that are short-term, intense, and require vigilant monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan.
• Develop a written individualized care plan including teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
• Administer medications.
• Practice infection control and maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Communicate changes in patient’s condition to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develop and maintain a written plan of care for assigned patients; set priorities and goals.
• Provide documented evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching.
• Communicate and work effectively with staff and other departments.
• Participate in unit or hospital QA activities to advance nursing.
