Job summary

Mission Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern for PRN status to gain hands‑on experience while supporting nursing teams in cardiology stepdown. You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound and catheter care, and participate in patient education under supervision.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and hold or be pursuing CNA certification; BCLS must be obtained within 30 days of start. This role offers exposure to a leading health system in Asheville region.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Currently enrolled and in good standing in a nursing program.
• NC (CNA) Certified Nursing Assistant credential

Responsibilities

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort.
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures.
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team.
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery.
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices.
• Engaging in learning opportunities and partnering with supervisor to build your career development plan
