Job summary

Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC is seeking a Nurse Extern for PRN shifts in the Medical Cardiology Stepdown unit. You will work alongside registered nurses to deliver safe, compassionate care while gaining hands-on experience in a high-acuity setting.

As a current nursing student, you will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound and catheter care, documentation, and patient education under supervision, building the skills and confidence to progress in your nursing career.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Currently enrolled and in good standing in a nursing program accredited under 21 NCAC 36.0302(b)(1).
• NC (CNA) Certification

Responsibilities

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience.
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated.
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery.
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices and maintaining an organized environment.
• Engaging in learning opportunities and partnering with supervisors to build a personal career development plan.
