Job summary

IMS Care Center in Avondale, AZ is seeking an Authorization Coordinator for our Cardiology Clinic. You will verify eligibility, submit authorization requests, manage referrals, schedule tests, and assist patients with billing and payments in a dynamic front office setting.

The role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, experience with insurance portals (Athena is a plus), and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with Athena system is a plus.

• Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize front office tasks.
• Good computer skills; familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of insurance portals is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Submit authorization requests to insurance for ancillary services performed in the clinic.
• Manage ancillary schedules to ensure tests/procedures are approved before patient arrival.
• Coordinate physician clinic/procedure schedules with the RFA/Procedure schedulers.
• Greet patients and explain services, payment categories, and billing procedures.
• Verify demographics, referral, and insurance information for new and returning patients.
• Prepare days before verifying insurance, outstanding liabilities, medical documentation, and informing patients of copays.
• Reschedule appointments/tests/procedures as needed due to insurance.
• Review and verify patient coverage and compute charges to be paid by the patient.
• Answer incoming calls and route to appropriate staff; phones answered within 3 rings.
• Verify eligibility via portals or by calling insurance.
• Provide excellent customer service and assist patients.
• Communicate patient issues to the practice manager.
• Maintain overall cleanliness of the front office.
