Job summary

Mercy Health’s Surgical Assist Cardiac Team at Anderson Hospital seeks an experienced Surgical Assistant to prepare the cardiac OR, gather supplies, and assist the surgeon intra-operatively under direct supervision. The role includes exposure, wound closure, and hemostasis, with duties expanding to the Main OR as needed.

Required are a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a Surgical Assistant Program, and CSA certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of Surgical Assistant Program is required.
• CSA certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the surgical assistant on assigned cardiac surgery cases in scrub role.
• Under surgeon supervision, handle tissue, exposure, instruments, sutures, and hemostasis.
• Performs scrubbing tasks including gowning/gloving and maintaining sterile field.
• Assists surgeon in draping patient and applying dressings as requested.
• Maintains patient safety and a clean, safe operating environment.
