Job summary

Mercy Health in Cincinnati seeks a Surgical Assistant, Cardiac Team, to prepare the cardiac OR, gather supplies, and assist under the surgeon during procedures. You will expose anatomy, control blood loss, and assist with wound closure and knot tying in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a Surgical Assistant Program completion, two years in an OR, and CSA certification. Excellent teamwork and patient safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program (required).
• Two years’ operating room experience (required).
• Experience in cardiovascular operating room (preferred; required for RSFH).
• CSA certification or eligibility required.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the surgical assistant on cardiac cases in the scrub role.
• Under surgeon supervision, handles tissue, provides exposure, sutures, and hemostasis.
• Performs wound closure, knot tying, irrigation and uses instruments and power equipment.
• Assists in draping, sterile field setup and maintaining patient safety throughout.
• Supports dressing applications and post-case supply management.
